The specific functions of NSEC are to:
    1. Ensure that ethical standards are maintained in research;
    2. Consider and review accreditation applications for ISERCs;
    3. Undertake monitoring and evaluation of ISERCs;
    4. Address ethical dilemmas in research;
    5. Review protocols referred to it by the NACOSTI;
    6. Maintain linkages and partnerships with other scientific organizations; and
    7. Develop and review instruments to support research ethics.
